FAQs & How-Tos

When will the JBL SB 250 go into standby mode?
If there is no activity on your JBL SB 250, it will go into standby mode after 20 minutes, and will take a couple of seconds to turn on after standby mode.
My LED pairing indicator for my subwoofer has stopped to light. Is it broken?
No, your subwoofer is not defective at all! This is normal and by design of the product after it has been paired for a longer period of time.
Audio is out of sync with devices.
Check to see if it happens with all source devices (TV, BluRay, DVD, etc.). If it only happens with one device and not the other, the issue may be with that device. Make sure you do not have any HDMI adapters or splitters. These can cause issues with video and audio.
The sub does not connect to the sound bar.
Move the sub closer to the SOUNDBAR for testing and see if the signal picks up. 1: Turn off any wireless routers or devices that run on 2.4ghz signals, such baby monitors, cordless phones, etc. and test to see if the subwoofer connects. 2: Test with a movie or music with a lot of action scenes or bass. If it's just dialogue, you may not hear the subwoofer.
What does the Audio Feedback button do?
Audio feedback turns on tones that let you know that something is happening on the product. When Audio feedback is ON, you will hear tones for:
  • Bluetooth Pairing.
  • SoundShift on/off.
  • JBL Connect Pairing Mode (Boost TV only)
My JBL SB250 should turn on automatically when receiving an audio signal at either input, according to the owner's manual. However, this does not happen.
We are sorry about this problem. EuP regulations require that electronics go into full off after some time. Unfortunately, this means that the soundbar cannot be woken up again after half an hour. It is necessary to use the ON/OFF switch.
I do not get audio from my TV.
Make sure the optical connection is seated securely on the SB250 and on your device. Go into your device settings and make sure the digital output is enabled. On TV displays the option usually states "enable external speakers" or enable "digital audio output".
There is an upgrade socket on the back panel. How is this socket used, and which kind of cable must I buy to use it?
Although the owner's manual states that owner can use this connector for home upgrade procedure, this is not so. The USB-connector used cannot be bought in commercially available cables, and the port must be considered for technician's use only.
What does HARMAN volume do?
With HARMAN Volume you can set your desired volume between low, medium and high. You can listen to your audio without sudden distracting changes such as blasts from ads, and volume variations as you switch between channels on your TV. Other benefits include full sound effects even at low volumes, this means if you are watching movies (DVD, BlueRay disc) and HARMAN volume is set to low volume, then the signal is more compressed, than what the other volume levels is. This will allow you to hear natural, consistent sound at low volume level, and not only hearing voice conversation from movies, giving you the same movie experience just with lower volume. What is best for you is a matter of personal preference, so we recommend playing around with the three different levels.
Can I change the Bluetooth name for my JBL SB 250?
Sorry, this is not possible.
Should I use the analog AUX connection or Optical to connect to SB 250?
An optical connection will assure better audio performance and will support Dolby Digital audio from an HDTV.
Is it possible to reset my SB 250?
Yes, switch the soundbar ON, then press the volume - ( minus ) and surround buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. Now the device is reset.
Can I connect 2 separate devices to the SB 250 AUX and optical Inputs?
SB 250 will only pass one connection at a time. If two connections are playing at the same time, then the optical device will take priority.
What is the difference between the SB 250 and SB 350?
The SB 250 has optical and auxiliary connections, while the SB 350 has both connections along with HDMI ARC. The SB 250 has the JBL SoundShift feature (one-button switch between TV and Bluetooth connection), while the SB 350 does not. Compared to the SB 250, the SB 350 has a more powerful subwoofer amplifier. The bigger amp will provide listeners with more bass response.
Will Harman Display Surround always be on?
Only if you have pressed the button on the remote or Boost TV itself.
Can i learn additional IR codes, other than what the QSG is saying?
We only offer volume+ and volume-, mute and power for your TV remote to learn these IR codes.
Does SB 250 Support AptX Codec?
No, SBC Codec and AAC Codec are supported.
Pairing the soundbar and the wireless subwoofer takes a long time, and sometimes the connection will not open.
First time you perform the pairing, it can take several minutes to establish connection. If more than five minutes go by with no result, please switch both units OFF and ON again.
My remote control is not working. I have a credit card-sized remote with disc type battery. Do I need to replace the remote control?
It is usually not necessary to replace an unresponsive remote control. First, check to see if there is a small plastic tab extending out of the base of the remote control. This is a protective sleeve installed on new remote controls to prevent the battery from draining. Pull this tab to remove the plastic sleeve. The sleeve must be removed before the remote will operate. If the sleeve was removed or not present and the remote control is not working then a new battery should be installed before replacing the remote control. There is a small slide out drawer that houses the battery. The battery type will be either CR2025 or CR2032 for remotes of this size. Replacement batteries are commonly available from most electronic and convenience stores that sell small batteries. Check the number on the original battery and replace it with a battery that uses the same number. These steps will typically solve the problem.
How many Bluetooth devices can I pair to SB 250 at one time?
You can have several source paired, but only one active at the same time.
How do I pair an additional Bluetooth device to SB 250?
Short-press the Bluetooth Button to open for new pairing.
