  • I want to do a stereo setup. Can I use any Connect-equipped speaker for this?

    Only identical Connect-equipped speakers can be used a true stereo pairs. Speakers that are not identical will play double mono.

  • Renaming of the JBL Connect App to JBL Portable

    The JBL Connect app will be renamed as JBL Portable on the App Store and Google Play store in January 2021, it will still be possible to find the app in each store by searching for either JBL Connect or JBL Portable.

  • What is the procedure to reset Xtreme?

    With the speaker ON, press and hold the VOL+ and Pause/Play buttons for 5-6 seconds. The Xtreme shuts down, and is now reset. You will need to 'forget' the speaker in Bluetooth settings on your phone/tablet in order to pair it again.

  • Which JBL products have the Connect technology

    The first JBL speakers featuring the JBL Connect technology are: JBL Flip 3, JBL Pulse 2, JBL Xtreme, JBL Boost TV and JBL Charge 3, SB 450 A firmware upgrade is available for the JBL Charge 3 ,which will upgrade Connect to JBL Connect+. After this fw upgrade, it is no longer possible to connect the Charge 3 with other products which have JBL Connect ( Flip 3, Boost TV, Pulse 2, Xtreme )

  • How can I check the software version on my Xtreme?

    By pressing Volume - & JBL Connect button for 3 seconds. A voice will tell you the current software version of your Xtreme. The Xtreme must be ON. The latest version of the JBL Xtreme firmware is v. 7.7

  • Which music services are compatible with the SIRI and Google Now voice assistant integration?

  • My device is waterproof, but what about salt water or chlorine water?

    Your JBL speaker is waterproof with IPX7 rating. (IPX7 means it can survive immersion in 1 meter/3.3 feet for up to 30 minutes.) To maintain the looks and functions of your speaker, please make sure to rinse it with fresh water after using it at a swimming pool or the ocean, then dry off all covers and areas where water can gather. The standard for waterproofing is for tap water. Chemicals and salt in your pool or the ocean can damage the waterproof seals or harm the surface finish over time if not rinsed off after use.

  • IP67 Information

    The IP67 Rating is different from IPX7. IP67 not only protects the internal components of the speaker if submerged in 1 meter (3.3 ft) of water for up to 30 minutes, it is also resistant against dust.
    Dust accumulation around electronics can lead to hardware failure, so having an IP67 rating is extremely beneficial for product longevity.

    No, only if the zipper is closed.

  • I have a FLIP3, would it be possible to connect that to my Xtreme?

    Yes, if you are using our new feature JBL Conncet. It will allow up to two products that have this feature, to be connected together. Connect to one of your speakers via Bluetooth or AUX source, press the JBL Connect button on the speakers. A sound will come when they are connected. You are now able to see them connected in the JBL Connect app.

  • Waterproof Information (IPX7)

    This unit is IPX7 rated, which means that you can submerge the unit in water as deep as 3 feet (1 meter) for up to 30 minutes.

  • Does the Wi-Fi indicator on the front of JBL Playlist, has to be at full signal to work?

    If the Wi-Fi indicator has all 3 LED lights on, then the signal to the speaker is extremely good, and if only 2 LED light up, then the signal will be good. If you only have 1 LED light or No LED light we suggest moving the speaker to a different location for a better Wi-Fi signal and better audio experience.

  • What is the difference between the 5000 and the 10000 mAH battery size stated on the box?

    The physical battery has a capacity of 5000mAh @7.4V. This is the charged battery storage. When outputting ( so power from the battery is drawn ), it's using 3.7V, so half of the voltage, which will give you 37Wh - equivalent to a 10.000mAh battery with power stored at 3.7V

  • What are the differences between Partyboost and Connect+

    Our newest products, such has JBL Pulse 4 and JBL Flip 5, feature a new technology called Partyboost .

    Partyboost technology
    • Improved Bluetooth connection between speakers.
    • A more powerful Bluetooth transmitter means that the speakers can be farther apart.
    • Partyboost can only connect to other Partyboost speakers.
    All newer Portable products from JBL will have Partyboost integrated.
    Unfortunately, this feature is not backwards compatible with  previous models that have JBL Connect or Connect+.

  • How many hours of audio playback can you receive on a full charge on the Xtreme 2?

    You can receive up to 15 hours of playing time, depending on the music volume.

  • My JBL Connect app does not work on my Android device, how come?

    There might be several reasons that our app might not work. First, your Android device must have 5.0 OS (Operating system) or higher to support JBL Connect app. Devices under 5.0 OS will not be supported. If you are having trouble viewing your JBL Connect compatible device in the app, please disable Bluetooth, and then turn it back on again. Now you should be able to see your device in the JBL Connect app.

  • Upgrading the software on your PartyBoost or Connect+ Speaker

    Software updates for your speaker can be done using the JBL Connect app.
    Download it from the Apple App store and Google Play store.
    If there is an available update, look for the small red dot above the gear icon and follow the download instructions (see image below).
    If you have an issue with your device it is always worth checking if there is a Software update available and performing the installation if there is.

  • What can I do with the Connect app?

    It is possible to rename the Bluetooth name of the primary connected device and set the Party or Stereo mode. If a firmware upgrade is available for any Connect or Connect+ compatible speaker, this can be installed through the app. Only identical products can be set to stereo mode. Please note that, even though you can pair a Boost TV with JBL Connect, you cannot control this from the JBL Connect App

  • Is it possible to run the Connect app on a Windows phone?

    Windows phones are not supported, and no future plans about this are known.

  • My Xtreme got dirty after a day on the beach. Can I rinse it under the faucet or shower?

    Yes, rinse it under a faucet or under the shower, but not under full water pressure.

  • Is the Xtreme 2 waterproof?

    Yes, the Xtreme 2 features an IPX 7 rating. IPX7 is defined as the speaker can be immersed in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

  • Information on different firmware versions on same products and models

    There can be differences in the internal hardware that also implies different firmwares. These products feature the same specifications and performance expectations. If the app does not inform you of any new updates, the firmware is current and the product is performing as designed.

  • Bluetooth Troubleshooting

    How to avoid Bluetooth interference/interruptions:

    • Always have a clear line of sight between your Bluetooth device (speaker, headphones, etc.) and source device (Smartphone/tablet/PC, etc). Be aware of obstacles in front of your devices.

    • Try to shutdown products that have Bluetooth, but not are not being used. They are often the reason for interference even though they are not being used.

    • Do not stand too close to your Wi-Fi router since a Wi-Fi signal is stronger and in many cases will "overlap" the connection.

    • Be aware of walls around you. Concrete and brick walls will often interrupt the signal, as it cannot pass through such thick walls.

    • Bluetooth signals cannot travel through water, which includes the human body. Make sure with Wireless Headphones to keep your Source device and the receiver on the same side of your body.

    • Open spaces such as parks can cause issues for your devices, as open air is "bad" for any Bluetooth signal if it cannot reflect from objects around you.
       

    Pairing issues with a Smartphone or Tablet:

    1. First, try to restart the Bluetooth connection on your source device (Smartphone/tablet/PC) by switching Bluetooth off and on again with a short pause in between.
    2. "Forget" (remove) the previously paired connection (on your smartphone/tablet/PC) in your Bluetooth settings if you had once paired with our product.

    3. Try to restart the source device(Smartphone/tablet/PC) by powering it off and on again, and after restarting try to establish a Bluetooth connection to your product.

    4. If the above does not work, then try to restart your product (Portable speaker, Headphone) by turning it off and on again.

    5. Press and hold down the Bluetooth button on your device (Portable speaker, Headphones) to initiate pairing mode again.

    6. Go into the Bluetooth settings on your Smartphone/tablet or PC to start the pairing process.

    You should now have a successful pairing with our device, but if you are still experiencing issues then contact us again.

    Pairing issues with a Computer or PC:
    In most cases when a Computer/PC/Laptop has issues connecting to a Bluetooth device (Portable speaker, Headphones, Active speakers), it's caused by your Computer/PC/Laptop's Bluetooth driver (software).
    The driver (software) should support the following Bluetooth protocols, to be able to play music/sounds from your Computer/PC/Laptop:

    • A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) driver for your Computer/PC/Headphones to transfer music.

    • AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) driver to send skip/forward/pause/play music to your device

    Always get the latest driver version available for your Computer/PC/Laptop.

    To download the correct driver (software), visit the manufacturer's website of your Computer/PC/Laptop. They usually have a "Support/Download" section where you can find the correct driver. Otherwise, contact their support.
    The standard drivers provided by Microsoft/Windows systems are often not correct, and will result in error messages (such as having to enter a PIN code), or pairing not working.

    What is Bluetooth technology?
    Bluetooth technology is a wireless technology that exchanges data (Music etc.) over short distances from a mobile device.
    Bluetooth range depends on your surroundings (reflection from objects) and what chipset is being used (some can go 1 meter, 10 meters or 100 meters).
    Our Bluetooth devices typically supports up to 10 meter distance from the source device.

    Explaining the different Bluetooth profiles used in our devices:
    Many of our Bluetooth devices have a specification sheet like Bluetooth Profiles Supported: A2DP v1.5/AVRCP v1.6. These are the protocols that a specific Bluetooth speaker or Headphone device is compatible with. This might look too technical for some customers, but all you need to know is that Bluetooth Speakers and Headphones they are the only ones with these profile that you need to be aware of:

    A2DP – A2DP stands for ‘Advanced Audio Distribution Profile’ and is a Bluetooth protocol that allows mobile users to stream high quality (stereo or mono) audio wirelessly. If you want to listen to your music on a pair of Bluetooth headphones or speakers, both devices need to support this.

    AVRCP – AVRCP stands for ‘Audio/Video Remote Control Profile' and controls remote functions such as pause/start/skip/forward.

    HSP – HSP stands for ‘Headset Profile’ and is a Bluetooth profile to enable a two-way wireless Headphone to be used with a Bluetooth smartphone. In our Headphones this is one of the most common Bluetooth profiles and supports simultaneous two-way (full-duplex) audio, but it does not support stereo audio.

    HFP - HFP Stands for 'Hands Free Profile'. This profile provides the same abilities as HSP does, but adds abilities such as redial last number called, voice dialing and call waiting.

    Note for HSP and HFP:
    You can also use it with devices other than phones, like your Computer/PC with a Bluetooth Headphone that could be used with a Bluetooth-enabled PC and VoIP software to place an Internet phone call (NOTE: some PC software requires different drivers for specific purposes like SKYPE - Always refer to the manufacturer of the PC/Laptop for help with setting this up).

  • Is it possible to replace the batteries in my JBL Xtreme by myself?

    No, this is not possible. Please contact our helpdesk for more information. They will provide contact details for the service center closest to you.

  • I have a JBL Xtreme, would it be possible to connect that to my FLIP3?

    Yes, if you are using our new feature JBL Connect. It will allow up to two products that have this feature, to be connected together. Connect to one of your speakers via Bluetooth or AUX source, press the JBL Connect button on the speakers. A sound will come when they are connected. You are now able to see them connected in the JBL Connect app.

  • How long does it take to charge the battery?

    It takes 3.5 hours to charge the battery from completely empty to full charge.
  • PartyBoost support on the JBL Connect and JBL Connect+

    The new PartyBoost does not support the previous Connect and Connect+ features. For example: You will not be able to successfully connect the new PartyBoost enabled Flip 5 with a Connect+ enabled speaker like the Pulse 3 or Flip 4. You will not be able to connect the Boombox 2 to the original Boombox speaker.

  • Xtreme - Battery Life

    Q: On the box, it says that it can play up to 15 hours music, will that still be possible if i charge my Phone while playing? A: Depending on your music source and content that is being played as well as volume level. It's possible to reach 15 hours of playtime, but if you are charging your Phone while playing. The playtime will be decreased.

  • Are the Control X Wireless all-weather speakers?

    No. Although the Control X Wireless have a rugged exterior and are portable, they are not all-weather speakers. Any direct exposure to harsh weather condition (rain, snow, extreme hot/cold temperatures) will damage the speakers.

  • If I pair my Bluetooth speaker to my phone, and record a video with the phone, will the speaker's microphone serve as audio source?

    No, all recordings made on the telephone will be using the telephone's built-in microphone. Replay of the recording will be heard over the speaker afterwards, though, as long as it is paired to the telephone.

  • How can I connect two JBL Connect compatible speakers together?

    Please press JBL Connect buttons on both speakers to connect.

  • How can I check the software version on my Flip3, Flip4 or Xtreme??

    By pressing Volume - & JBL Connect button for 3 seconds. A voice will tell you the current software version.

  • How do you remove the batteries inside the earcup?

    The Synchros Chrome is actually the Synchros S500 in chrome-plated version. On the right ear cup, you will find two ridges. These are there to make it possible to remove the disc that covers the batteries. You just position your fingernails against the ridges, to turn the disc counter-clockwise, against a small notch resistance. The Chrome is not painted, but plated. This means that the material is now thicker, and the lid can be rather difficult to remove, because the locking notches are squeezed into position. There is no other way than to put pressure on the ridges, press downward and in a counter-clockwise direction at the same time, and press until the notches, or claws, finally let go, and the lid rotates into open position, when it will fall off. If the lid does not budge, it may be necessary to use some kind of tool, but that can damage the chrome surface. In extreme cases, it may have to go to service.

  • How do I activate the SIRI® and Google Now™ voice assistant integration on my JBL Xtreme?

    1. Download and run the latest JBL Connect app on your phone 2. The JBL Connect app will begin discovering your JBL Xtreme (please make sure your speaker is connected via Bluetooth first) 3. Click on the software update and plug your speaker into a power source during the update 4. Once the upgrade is successful, use the toggle switch to change the play/pause button to now have the voice assistant function 5. Simply press the play/pause button on your JBL Xtreme (you will hear a brief tone) and begin speaking your commands via SIRI and Google Now.   • Can I use my Xtreme outside in rainy weather?

    Yes, this is no problem.

  • Buttons unresponsive when plugged into a power source

    If the buttons on your portable speaker are not working properly or are unresponsive while plugged into a power source, please try running the speaker on battery. If the buttons perform correctly while running on battery, this means your power supply is not providing enough current/amps. Be sure to use a power supply that has a rating equal to or greater than the amperage rating indicated in your product specs.

  • Can I place my Xtreme in the bathroom, where it is humid, and it may be splashed with water?

    Yes, steam and drops of water in a bathroom are fine.

  • Battery and Charging Issues

    Many Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG products run on rechargeable batteries. In most cases, these batteries will provide years of excellent service and keep the music playing for many hours.

    WARNING – the rechargeable batteries inside our products are not user-serviceable. Please do not attempt to open the product or replace the battery. Doing so will void your warranty.

    Battery issues fall into three categories:

    • Your speaker or headphones run out of power after only a short time.

    • The speaker will not play at all because the battery will not hold a charge.

    • When you plug in the cable to charge your speaker, sometimes it charges and sometimes it does not- the red charging LED or other indicator might not come on.

      Here are some things to try that often fix these issues.

    1. It could be as simple as a bad USB charging cable. If you have other charging cables, give them a try. (Be sure that the cable has the same type of connector as the original one that came with your product.)

    2. Same for the charger- if your product charges by USB, try a different USB charger. Be sure that it is rated at least 2.0a (2 amps) output.

    3. Try other electrical outlets at your location to be certain it is not a local wiring issue.

    4. Charge the product overnight for at least 8 hours.

    5. When you plug the charging cable into the speaker or headphones, is the connector stable, or can it be wiggled around? If it can be wiggled, this could indicate that the charging port has been damaged or come loose. Sometimes wiggling the connection restores charging power.

    IMPORTANT: Some products such as Xtreme, Xtreme 2, Boombox, Partybox 100 & 300, GO+Play and the Onyx Studio series do not use USB charging. Instead, they have a specialized charger. Do not attempt to charge these products with other cables or chargers.

    If none of these fixes the issue, it could be that the battery has died or is losing its capacity, or that the charging connector on your speaker is damaged. Please contact us so we can assist you. Be sure to mention that you have tried the steps in this Battery & Charging FAQ so that our agents do not ask you to repeat these steps.

  • When using JBL Connect, how far can i take the second speaker with me?

    JBL Connect feature is using Bluetooth technology, so it is hard to say how far you can walk away. Depending on what other signals you have at your place that could interupt and wall material between speakers.

  • Can I wirelessly link JBL Flip 4 together with JBL Flip 3, Pulse 2 or Xtreme?

    No, JBL Flip 4 can wirelessly link with JBL Connect+ compatible speakers only. Currently, the Flip 4, Pulse 3 and Charge 3 ( after a firmware upgrade ) have the JBL Connect+ feature

  • My JBL GO goes into standby when I play quietly. Why is that, and can something be done to change this?

    With some phones, such as iPhones and some Android models, volume is synchronized while Bluetooth is used, and levels below volume setting 6 (tested with iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s) and volume setting 5 on most Android devices will cause the GO to enter standby after some minutes. If you want to play softer while still using your iPhone as a source, please change to cabled connection from the headphone output to the AUX input of GO. This will make it possible for you to set the GO's volume at its minimum step, and then control total level on the telephone. Of course, if source level from the telephone is set extremely low, the GO will go into standby again, because GO needs a certain level to keep playing. Alternatively, use a phone which does not synchronize volume as source. Many Android phones do not synchronize volume, so by using such a phone, you can adjust GO to its lowest level, adjusting total level independently, even via Bluetooth. This will usually result in music volume at the desired level.

  • Charging the Speaker When Wet

    You will need to dry the charging port completely before plugging in power for charging.
     
  • Can i connect 3 or more speakers together with JBL Connect?

    No, for now it is only possible to connect two speakers together using the JBL connect feature. Newer JBL products feature JBL Connect+, which allows you to connect > 100 devices simultaneously, these however are not compatible with older JBL products featuring JBL Connect

  • My Apple device displays an error "Your device does not support BLE", what is that?

    Our JBL Connect app requires that your Apple device supports BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). Apple devices from iPhone 4S and up support BLE, but iPhone 4S cannot use JBL Connect app with PULSE 2, as PULSE 2 has newer hardware, which iPhone 4S does not support. iPod Touch 5th generation supports BLE as well.

  • I cannot upgrade my JBL Connect product via HID Tool. How come?

    To upgrade your Connect product, please make sure that the USB Cable you are using, can both transfer data and charge at the same time. Normally the included cable should do both things, but if that isn't the case, then we advise to use a phone charger cable. For your information. All updates for your Connect product can be done via our JBL connect app. If you can not see any update in this app, then it means your product has the latest software. The HID Tool and JBL Connect app have the same software for Connect products.

  • Does the Xtreme has the same sound with and without AC power connected?

    If you are playing on battery only, you may experience slightly lower bass level and dynamics near maximum volume. If you are AC connected and playing via your Xtreme speaker, you will hear an increase in bass performance. The reason that bass performance is lowered when playing on battery is to reduce power consumption for you to have longer playing time from your Xtreme speaker.
