More sound than you expect from a 6-1/2" (160mm) midrange.
With peak power ratings of 640 to 1800 watts, JBL MS Series component speakers and subwoofers will add serious muscle to any car audio system. But the MS Series is also about flexibility, offering the exact wiring options you need to build the car audio system of your wildest dreams.
The MS-62C component system includes separate woofer and tweeter modules with high-quality external passive crossovers that feature Dale resistors, poly caps, and tweeter level and phase controls to fine-tune system response for the acoustics of your vehicle and personal taste. With 160 watts of continuous average power handling and 640 watts of peak power handling, you’ll get more of the very thing you want from your subwoofer.
JBL engineers designed the MS-62C component speaker system to produce faithful, full-range sound from a head-unit or amplifier capable of delivering up to 320 watts of power. This makes the MS-62C an ideal upgraded midrange and tweeter component set for systems powered with head-unit or factory amplifier power. They also handle the requisite power from aftermarket amplifiers such as the MS-A1004 that is typical of very high-fidelity aftermarket upgrades.
The woofers in MS-62C component speakers feature rigid fiberglass-laminate cones that are lightweight and stiff enough to reproduce both low frequencies and the highly sensitive midrange frequencies where the human ear can so easily detect distortion. The stiffness of the cone means that it moves in a linear fashion and does not flex or bend at the highest excursions. That translates into faithfully delivered bass reproduction as well as a clear and precise midrange.
For all cone speakers, upper-frequency sound can suffer from wave cancellation and a negative effect called lobing. Such effects can be reduced by including a phase plug, which is a distinct feature of MS Series component woofers. Reducing the lobing effect lets the listener identify a more singular point source, which sounds more realistic. The phase plug can also extend the speaker response as much as an octave, which ensures a very effective blend with an MS Series tweeter in sensitive human hearing ranges.
Cast-aluminum frames on the MS-62C component woofer ensure a rigid chassis for the speaker’s moving parts. Since cast aluminum is nonmagnetic, the speaker can focus more of its own magnetism on the voice coils to control the rapid, piston-like movement of the cone and reproduce even the most complex bass sounds. Keeping energy in the voice coils greatly reduces electrical power compression. Cast aluminum also dissipates heat very efficiently and hence provides reliable power handling.
MS-62C component woofers feature a vented magnet assembly to let the voice coils breathe. This structure reduces the probability of power compression in systems that play loud over a long period of time. It means a more efficient use of amplifier power so that all the power delivered to the woofer in the component set is directed to the voice coil and not wasted as residual heat.
MS-62C component woofers feature silver-plated, spring-loaded connection terminals, ensuring ease of connection and accommodation of a variety of wire-gauge sizes. Such terminals ensure a solid connection to the loudspeaker wire without the fuss of push-on crimp terminals, or overheating with a soldering iron. These terminals are yet another feature that makes MS Series components installation-friendly.
Inverting the tweeter dome allows a wider dispersion of high frequencies to blend with the woofer. Such a feature extends flexibility of mounting position and still delivers the necessary sound energy. Use of titanium as a diaphragm material ensures that the tweeter has low-mass, high stiffness and good mechanical damping. The result is crisp and clear high frequencies.
The MS-62C tweeter offers multiple mounting configuration choices, including flush mounting and three degrees of surface mounting: 0-degree, 9-degree and 40-degree angles. You can place and aim tweeters as needed to deliver the crisp and clear high frequencies that you expect from a JBL loudspeaker.
JBL engineers did not cut corners in the MS-62C’s passive filter network, which is of audiophile caliber and uses only the finest components. The unit provides onboard configuration jumpers for setting tweeter attenuation levels and phase. And there is even a tweeter protection circuit – just in case.
MS-62C component speakers include not only all the hardware you need for installation, plus attractive grilles (when they’re necessary), but also premium speaker wire. You’ll have everything you need to install the loudspeaker components, with the flexibility to place them where they will perform best in your car rather than just where you may already have existing wires.
